Don’t forget to pause during dinner today and make note of the time/date fun you can have! I slept through the AM option and don’t give me any military time backtalk!! :)

Silly fun..but I love this stuff.

RSS = REALLY SLICK STUFF

As Darren Kuropatwa of the Rip,Mix, Burn blog said a few months ago…RSS is the killer app for educators. I have been working with instructional technologies of all kinds for about 20 years now and I got excited about a few things (ok..so I was pretty wrong about laserdisks). But RSS has got me really pumped up. It is a cool thing that can do so much and has so much potential. I am going to commit myself to finding good way to integrate RSS into as much as possible for myself personally as well as with the courses that I help support.

Starting a New Term

We started Summer 2006 classes yesterday. It was a hectic day..one with two message on voice mail when I hung up the phone with someone else. But, I also got to solve a lot of little problems for folks and they were always appreciative and I was glad to be able to help.

I love looking out during our WebCT orientation and see folks smiling and nodding as they actually understand what I am saying. A lot of folks who come to the orientations care about their coursework (of course, they do – they drove in to the orientation session) and they want to succeed and we want them to do so as well. It’s a good feeling and I always look forward to it…even though I am totally pooped when the day is done!

@@THINGS TO CHECK OUT

Okay..I was overwhelmed the other day but then, when I take a minute to look at all the cool things I find and get to use, it is exciting. I keep a small text file on my hard drive called “@@THINGS TO LOOK AT”. It sits at the top of my directory and whne I have a few minutes, I look at the file and visit the site or check out the tool/technology to learn more.

From that list, there are several tools/sites that I now use on a daily basis that, less than a year ago, I didn’t even know existed. Some were around just waiting for me to find them. Some got easier to use. Some just popped up (hello, world).

Now, I’m figured out how to use them (mostly). Time to figure out how to use them well with others!

Things like

Still on the list:

  • Drupal
  • Blosxom
  • Pachyderm
  • Google Notebook
  • 360 Yahoo

What’s in your list?

So many things to think about..so little time to think

As I move through this whirlwind of activity between terms, I usually relish the downtime to think about stuff..like migrating servers, updating software in the lab, wondering what the next “big thing” will be in edtechland. But, this time, there is so much happening and changing, I find that I mostly am swirling from thought to thought without time for those thoughts to land and take root. With the changes to our SIS, our web site management, our course management, our communication scheme in the long haul plus handling the increased interest in social software, blogs and podcasts, it is getting a little overwhelming.

Not complaining..it’s an exciting time to be in the biz…I just wish I could have David Allen help me GTD my day away so I could focus :)

Guessing the 10,000 edublog

So, I’ve stumbled into edublogs.org and I learn that almost 9,999 others have stumbled here as well.

My guess, May 24 at noon.

A bloggin’ we will go

We are starting to take off with blogging at my school in a big way. After tentative steps with three “baby blogs”, we now have the college president blogging and are looking at podcasting via its own special blog. Plus, as we start a common academic experience this fall, there will be a blog presence for it as well. I’m excited about it all

Oops, my nerd is showing…

All those with geek pride must view the latest Star Wars-LOTR mashup video – Star Lords. Worth the download, I thought.

Learned about it on BoingBoing but it is popping up everywhere now.

What kind of smart are you?

Fun quiz from Quiz Galaxy..once you get through all the annoying ads. Interesting results. Not sure if I agree 100% with it but it was fun.
